The purpose of this chapter is to give an overview of diaspora missiology for the sake of applying it to “international student ministry” (ISM) which is a reference to Christian ministry among internationals (foreign passport holders with a student or work visa) within an academic context. The theoretical framework as explained in this chapter is foundational to the whole book. This chapter begins with a review of the popular view of Christian “mission” and a proposed relational alternative.
