In this book, the authors propose an alternative to the popular understanding that Matthew 28:18-20 is the “Great Commission” passage.

Instead, readers are invited to engage in a narrative study of Matthew, leading to a new appreciation that the two “commandments” (of Matt. 22:37-39 and Matthew 28:18-20) are to be understood in light of the relational training of the disciples by Jesus who intended to prepare them for their eventual missionary task. The book ends with consideration that this new understanding has significant implications for preparing modern missionaries.
